Grammar

Sticklers For English

I think the image that I got of people who are really into grammar and making sure everyone was speaking correct English was the same that I bet a lot of people have. I get this image of a grumpy, angry very old person. It could be either male or female.

If its a male they have the bifocal lenses hanging from one of those chain necklaces, pushed down on the bridge of their nose. They have to be wearing a sweater vest and khaki pants. If its a female, I still have the same image concerning the glasses. They're very conservative, wearing a long dress and their hair is tied up on the back of their head in a bun or something to that effect.

I also get the image of Mr. Feeny from Boy Meets World (if you've never seen it, not the worst way to kill a half an hour) He was also the real dignified, smart kind of person who looking at you would figure grammar would really mean a lot to especially being a teacher. He also goes back to the whole sweater vest, glasses type of image I got as well.

Another image that i get is Ross from the show Friends (again not the worst way to kill a half an hour watching a TV show) Ross is a paleontologist in the show, so you can tell he is extremely smart, and would always correct people's grammar and pronunciation of words.

So if you ask the question what I think of when you say stickler for grammar, those are the kind of images that flash in my head.

I find it amusing and ironic that the only thing I can see that could use some work in this blog is the grammar. It is amusing and obviously well thought out (especially the exact description of the grammer sticklers). The grammar things aren't even all that huge, just remember to capitalize "I" and don't forget to use commas. ("They're very conservative, wearing long dresses, hair tied up on the back of their head in a bun, or something to that effect." Just a little sentence structure suggestion.)

I also don't think the last paragraph is necessary. We know that these are your thoughts because we know it's your blog, and we've just read the whole piece, where you tell us what you think.
