the $65 million pants
I don't know if anyone else has seen this story but I was convinced this was from News of the Weird except its not. A Korean family that runs a dry cleaner is being sued for a missing pair of pants. Doesn't seem so bad right now but it gets worse. They are being sued for $65 million dollars. Oh its not done with the weirdness. They are being sued a by a judge. Even the writers at SNL couldn't come up with a better one. The judge went into the cleaner to get his pants for many of his suit altered. One pair became missing and the judge wanted them to pay for the suit which was $1,000. The family offered the judge three different settlements but he declined them. Most of the law suit is coming from a strict interpretation of Washington D.C's consumer protection law which fines violators $1,500 per day. The judge apparently did the math of 3 violators for 1,200 days. Because of the signs over the cleaners saying “Satisfaction Guaranteed” and “Same Day Service” he is saying that this is false advertising. Also, since he had to go to a dry cleaner outside his neighborhood, he's calling for them to cover the cost of renting a car every weekend for 10 years which is roughly $15,000. I hope this judge gets destroyed in court and disbarred for being such a horse's ass.
